José Neves, born in Lisbon, in December 27th, 1963, graduated from Architecture in Faculty of Architecture of the Technical University of Lisbon, in 1986. He worked with Duarte Cabral de Mello and Maria Manuel Godinho de Almeida from 1986 until 1990 and participated in several projects with Vítor Figueiredo. In 1991 he opened his own practice.
He teaches Architecture at the Department of Architecture and Urbanism of ISCTE-IUL, since 2013, and taught Architecture and Drawing at the Faculty of Architecture of the Technical University of Lisbon (1988-2012), at the Department of Architecture of the Autónoma University of Lisbon (1998-2000) and at the Department of Architecture of the Lusíada University (1990-1991).
His work has been finalist of the FAD Award and the BIGMAT International Architecture Award, has been nominated for the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – MIES VAN DER ROHE Award and has been distinguished with the AICA (International Association of Art Critics) Award for Architecture 2014, the SECIL Architecture Award 2012, the VALMOR Award 2011 or the Honourable Mention of the VASCO VILALVA Prize for Heritage Renovation and Restoration 2014, Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.
